Elephant yam is a big tuber called as Suran (pronounced sue-ran). Amorphophallus paeoniifolius is the botanical name for the plant, which is not related to the common yam, which is classed as Dioscorea. Because of its elephantine hoof-like look, it is known as the Elephant Foot yam in England.
